Fit Five Friday: 5 pictures from this week

Happy Friday!  This has been a LONG week for me.  It warmed up yesterday and when I turned on the AC, it didn’t work.  Well, it did turn on but no cold air came out.  I told the landlord so hopefully he’ll send someone to fix it.  It is supposed to be hot this weekend and cold air will be greatly appreciated.

Let’s take a look at my pictures from this week.

📷 The photo of Mateo cracks me up!  He is giving me an evil look.  Every evening before going to bed, he meows because he wants a snack.  He won’t stop until I get up.  I love my little guy so much.

📷 I decided to organize my pens, pencils, highlighters, markers, etc.  Wow!  I didn’t realize I had so many.  These are what I had in my classroom and at home.  I definitely do not need more.

📷  Not exactly a photo but a meme.  I think Kim had it in one of her posts.  I had already saved it in my camera because I am planning to do something similar after Summer School.  This Summer I plan to relax and rest.

📷 I did not want to do my run on Monday but did it anyway.  My run was 4 miles with each mile faster than the previous one.  I ran in the evening and was already tired.  It wasn’t as fast as I would have wanted, but I did get negative splits.  Made me feel good when I saw the numbers!

📷 My students are revising and editing paragraphs.  Not as easy as I thought it was going to be to teach them.  However, a few have surprised me and have been able to do it correctly.  The challenging part now is writing it on paper.  Many have not written on paper in over a year and it’s been interesting seeing their handwriting.  😬

Fit Five Friday: 5 reasons I love my Peloton bike

I received my bike in August 2019.  Yep, before the pandemic.  I ordered it August 3 and received it 10 days later.  I will admit that I didn’t use it as much as I wanted to.  Early this year I resumed my membership after pausing it for a few months.  Now I use it about 3 days a week.  I am happy with that since I run everyday.

Read along to find out why I am loving it.

🚴🏻‍♀️ Variety of classes – The list is long with over 1,000 different classes.  You can pick from 5 minute to 90 minute classes.  You can also pick classes for beginners, low impact, intervals, climb, and theme.  Let’s not forget the music.  There is latin, pop, rock, etc.  The 80s and 90s pop ride classes are lots of fun.  One of my favorite classes is the 30 minute Momento Latino Ride with Robin.  The playlist made me dance and sing while on the bike.

🚴🏻‍♀️ Fun and great instructors – There are over 20 instructors offering classes.  My favorite instructor is Cody but I have ventured out and have also taken classes with Denis, Ally, Jenn, Robin, Olivia, Erik, Tunde, Alex, Leanne, Ben, Christine, Leanne, Emma, and Hannah.  Cody ALWAYS makes me laugh.  His classes are the perfect ones to take when I need someone to cheer me up.

🚴🏻‍♀️ Convenient – There is simply no excuse since I do not have to go anywhere to use it.  The bike is in my living room.  Sometimes I use it while watching TV.

🚴🏻‍♀️ Not just bike classes – With the Peloton membership there are many other classes to pick.  There is strength, yoga, cardio, meditation, running, tread bootcamp, bike bootcamp, and walking.  I’ve done mostly cycling and running with a few walking, strength, stretching, and meditation classes.  There is seriously many classes available.

🚴🏻‍♀️ Affordable monthly fee – I pay $39 per month (Peloton All-Access Membership).  Honestly I think it is a great deal as I mentioned that there are many different classes available.  There is also a Peloton Digital Membership for $12.99 per month.  With the latter a Peloton hardware is not required and you can use a computer, phone, tablet, or TV to access the classes.

Are you a Peloton user?  Bike or treadmill or both?

Fit Five Friday and May Ultimate Coffee Date

Hello May!  It seems like May would never get here.  I’ve been waiting for it since last year.  Haha, counting the days till school is over.  It isn’t warm in Chicago, but I would still drink either hot or iced coffee.  I like them both.  So grab a cup of your favorite drink and let’s chat.

If we were having coffee…
I’d tell you that RoadID has the BEST customer service.  Months ago I won a gift card hosted by Jenn.  I finally ordered a prism faceplate about two weeks ago and received it a few days later.  It is pretty but I felt like the name and contact information were hard to see.  I wrote to them letting them know I wasn’t happy with the product I ordered.  They offered to exchange it for me or give me a refund.  I opted for an exchange and picked a slate one.  I asked if I should return the prism nameplate.  They said to keep it.  Now that is what I call 100% satisfaction guaranteed!

If we were having coffee…
I’d tell you that I secretly smile and laugh (or maybe it is a runfession) when I am running and see the speed light cameras go off.  Many people are horrible drivers and like to speed up.  I wish we could get one in the corner where I live.  There is a stop sign but many drivers slow down instead of making a complete stop.  Imagine how much money the city could make from that corner?

If we were having coffee…
I’d tell you that I find it ridiculous when someone says “Happy Cinco de Mayo”.  I honestly do not understand the big deal with it.

If we were having coffee…
I’d ask you if you have been watching season 2 of “Selena: The Series”.  I know many people criticized the first season.  They prefer the movie with Jennifer Lopez.  I am liking the series because there is more focus on her and how her career started.  I also love the love story between her and Chris.

If we were having coffee…
I’d tell you that my doctor told me that I may be starting peri-menopause.  She told me to keep track of any periods and any possible menopause symptoms like hot flashes and night sweats.  I am “glad” I am not getting a period but not looking forward to hot flashes or night sweats.

Fit Five Friday and April 2021 Runfessions

It’s the last Friday of the month which means Marcia has opened the Runfessional!  It’s also time for another edition of Fit Five Friday hosted by DarleneRenéeJenn, Michelle, and me!  Let’s get started, shall we?!

Hello there and Happy Friday!  I am excited we are at the end of April.  I know you know why I am happy about it.  I am taking it day by day and am doing my best to be calm and patient at work.  29 days to go!

I runfess…
That I did not get a period this month.  Last month I wrote that in March my period lasted 10 days.  I’ve never had one last that long.  I already sent a message to my doctor letting her know.  It could be pre-menopause, stress, or something else.  One thing I know for sure is that I am NOT pregnant. 😊

I runfess…
That I am a bit jealous of seeing people post on Facebook about their vacation.  I am happy for them.  But deep down inside I do wished that were me going on vacation too.  I have the time and the money so what really is the issue?  Is it really Covid stopping me or is it something else?  Places I want to visit are Mexico, NY, and Washington, DC.

I runfess…
These past few days it’s been going well in school.  My secret?  I tell my students that if they don’t pay attention, don’t do the assignments, etc, etc., I will remove them from my Google Meet.  Then they cannot join again until 24 hours later or I change the meeting code.  I do the latter.  I also tell them that if parents ask why I removed them, that they should go ahead and tell them.  I’ve had to remove a few and for the most part most of them are paying more attention to me.

I runfess
That all of this running and bike classes is making me more hungry.  I need to do better in eating a more filling breakfast so that I am not starving by 10am (my lunch is at 11:30am on Monday and at 12:30 pm the other days).  I make a shake/smoothie with oatmeal, almond milk, and protein powder.  Sometimes I add a banana or spinach.  I thought that the oatmeal would fill me up but it doesn’t.  It doesn’t help that I am rushing when I get home from my run since I need to shower, get ready, and leave for work.

I runfess…
That while the extra money is nice teaching summer school, sometimes I have no desire to do it anymore.  I had to pick whether I wanted to do remote or in person teaching.  I picked in person and then changed it to remote.  However, there is no guarantee that I would be given what I select.  I like remote because it means no kids in the room and I do not have to wear a mask.  I like in person because I miss having kids in the classroom.  I have 3 right now (different days) and it is nice having them.  Each option has pros and cons.  I know the school I will be teaching but still do not know the grade.  Hopefully soon I will find out!

Again, thanks for listening!!

Fit Five Friday: 5 things to remember from April 2020

Somehow I was looking for an old post and ended up reading posts from last year.  So many things have happened since last year!  While we are still in a pandemic, some things are the same and some are different.  Join me as I go down memory lane to remember a few things from April 2020.

🗓️ Martini – I do love my martinis but just recently finished that bottle of sour apple pucker.  I have no idea why it took me so long.  And even with that book, I have not made different ones.  I’ve been been drinking more wine.  😬 Still no Martini Party.  Maybe next year?

🗓️ Rainbow challenge – This was a fun one!  It was also during this time that our Governor extended the stay at home order till May 30th and school was also cancelled for the rest of the year.  It was a rough week for me and I cried during one of my runs.  I am still having rough weeks but no crying.

🗓️  Remote learning – Who would have thought that I would still be doing remote learning?  So much has happened and changed and I am really frustrated with all of it.  I’ve been teaching from my classroom since January and I’ve had 3 students in my room since last month.  I still send letters to my students.  As a way to reward and motivate them, I send them $5 gift cards when they do well in class, a test, an assignment, etc.  Will remote learning continue in the Fall?

🗓️ Zoom meetup with blogger friends – Can we do this again?

🗓️ My first Peloton run class – I am so glad I decided to take another class with him again.  And then again and again.  He is one of my favorite instructors.  The constant chatting doesn’t bother me as much anymore.  He always has something interesting to say during class.  Many times I am learning something new from him.  I love his laughter and the many motivating things he mentions.  One of my favorites is “Wish for what you want and be ready to receive it”.  I might have missed a word or two.
